3D Design

Create an environmentally friendly device for your community, school or home that would solve a problem, issue, or support a device to be more efficient.

Directions: Identify an issue in your community, school or home.  Then, think out and design a physical solution that could address the issue and resolve the problem.

Components:

Problem Description: Include a description of the problem and the impact it has on your community, school or home. This can be written or a video.

Solution Description: Provide a detailed explanation of your solution. Be creative and explain how you will use various technologies, designs, features, etc to combat the problem. This can be written or a video.

Solution Design (3D Design): Design your solution using 3D design software.  Include images in your presentation with labels that show the features of your design as detailed in your solution description.

Printed 3D Design:  Students should display their final 3D print and are encouraged to be creative in how they display the design (draw/color environment, include toy people, cars, etc) to display how it would be placed within the community.

• Space will be assigned and limited to 3 feet per project.

A project will be disqualified if any of the following occur:

• The narrative description is missing. (see below)
• Copyright information and credits are not included on the narrative or displayed with the project. (see below)
• A planning document is not displayed/available that clarifies the process used to create the project. (see below)
• To ensure that projects reflect students’ own creativity and effort, participants in the Pennsylvania Media and Design Competition must adhere to an 80% human, 20% AI rule. Students should document and clearly report how AI tools were utilized in their work to maintain transparency and align with competition guidelines.

If a project meets the above rules it will be judged using the following: 3D Design Scoring Guideline

All projects need to display the process used to create the project. This should be specific and as detailed as possible to give the judges the necessary background regarding how it was developed. You may choose to put it on your tri-fold display or bring a loose-leaf notebook with your notes.

• The document will not be judged for grammar or appearance.
• Tri-fold displays are not judged, they are for clarification purposes only.
• Get photo releases signed by everyone in your project in any media format.
